Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the 2016/2017 Westlock Warriors Season!
We are looking forward to an exciting season filled with player enjoyment and growth not just in hockey but also in life as they become fine young members of our community.
Conditioning has commenced for Novice thru Midget, and team placements are starting Wednesday Sept 21 for Novice, Atom and PeeWee. Placements will be complete Sunday Sept 25, 2016. All players will know which team they are placed on along with the coach that has been chosen for that Team by Sunday evening. Please note the following changes to the schedule: because of our large Atom group we have added an ice time for them on Thursday Sept 22 5:30-6:30pm. You can also find changes that were made for Sept 27,28,29th schedule on our website.
We now have a new look to our website and are encouraging you all to visit it as we are going to be upadating it frequently so it suits all your needs and hopefully keeps us all informed and up to date for schedules and current events, or to find contact info for any of our board members.
We are looking for coaches, assistants, so if you are interested there is a head coach application on the website and the deadline is Friday Spet 23, 2016 at 12:00pm to apply to our Vice President Jeff Cuthbertson @ westlockmhavp@gmail.com. Assistant coaches can email him with your intentions.
There are a few exciting events coming soon including our revamped "I Love Hockey" Kid Sized edition. It is a free event for new and current U6 players in initiation. Hockey Alberta has partnered with us to educate coaches and parents on the new initiative with smaller ice surface and nets to cater to our inspiring hockey players. This will be Oct 1, 2016,10:00-11:30am with snacks and refreshments supplied.
Next is the Westlock Minor Hockey Night at Rogers Place during the Oil Kings game vs the Royals Oct 14, 2016, 7:00 pm. each group/team will get a group experience including Flag bearers, benchwarmers, etc. They will get to set foot on the ice in this new facility. We have the honor of being the first to be allowed on the ice!!! Tickets are only $18.00. More details to follow.
Another event will be the CFCW Critters game hosted by us. We were approached by them to host the game that will mark 1 Million raised as they were more impressed with our facility and support than anywhere else in the province! details coming soon.
One last note, Hockey Alberta has mandated that all parents complete Respect in Sport before your child will be allowed to play their first league game. I urge all parents to pause and think why we are required to do this and take something away from the course. Please remember why we are at the rink. It is about the children first, for their enjoyment. They are not performing for our enjoyment. Lets let the kids have fun while we meet new people, connect with old friends or just enjoy watching and cheering on our kids doing something they love!
